Former Foster Youth

The FFY program provides Medi-Cal coverage up to age 26 for youth who were in Foster Care on their 18th birthday. If you were in Foster Care on your 18th birthday, you are eligible to Full-Scope Medi-Cal benefits up to age 26.

Basic Eligibility Requirements
  • You must reside in California.
  • You must have received Medi-Cal while in Foster Care under the responsibility of any state on your 18th birthday or later.

 

If you were receiving Foster Care with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in Los Angeles County, your FFY Medi-Cal eligibility will automatically continue with DPSS once you exit foster care.

If you exited foster care in another state, and meet the FFY requirements, you may apply by completing the MC 250A-LA application form.

 

Income Requirements

Income is not considered for FFY Medi-Cal eligibility.

 

Citizenship/Immigration Requirements

With FFY, you qualify for Full-Scope No-Cost Medi-Cal benefits regardless of your citizenship or immigration status.

Renewal Requirements

FFY Medi-Cal eligibility is automatically renewed every year up to your 25th  birthday.  Annual renewal responsibility will begin three months prior to turning 26.

  • Crowns and Root Canals
  • Additional Dental Services for Youth Under Age 21

Apply On-Line with BenefitsCal

The easiest and quickest way is to apply for Medi-Cal online at BenefitsCal.

Apply By Phone
You can apply by phone. Call the Customer Service Center (CSC) (866) 613-3777 to have an application mailed to you.
Apply In Person
You can apply In person at any Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) District Office or outreach site.

You can submit the MC250A-LA in person at any DPSS office or by mail to: Medi-Cal Outreach District #16 P.O. Box 5270, El Monte, CA 91734 Att: FFY Coordinator OR by Fax at (626) 927-9650

If you are already receiving Medi-Cal under another program, you can be automatically enrolled in the FFY program without completing the MC250A-LA application.  Call the following phone number to make the transition.  (626) 312-6131.
