Market Match Program Helps Residents Double Their CalFresh Dollars

The Market Match Program is California’s healthy food incentive program which matches customers’ federal nutrition assistance benefits, like CalFresh and WIC, at farmers’ markets and other farm-direct sites.

Market Match empowers low-income shoppers to make healthy food choices by overcoming financial barriers and supports the local economy and civic engagement by leveraging the benefits of farmers’ markets for a broader community.  The program is available at over 240 sites in 38 counties and operated by over 50 community-based organizations and farmers’ market operators in the State of California.

When people use their CalFresh nutrition benefits at farmers’ markets and other farm-direct outlets, Market Match provides matching funds so that they can buy even more fruits and vegetables. For example, a shopper who spends $10 of CalFresh benefits at a farmers’ market will receive an additional $10 to spend on fresh produce, for a total of $20.
