Management Information and Evaluation (MIE)

The Management Information and Evaluation (MIE) Section is responsible for ensuring that your case is correctly processed and that the correct benefits are given according to County, State, and Federal policies.

To ensure your benefits are correct, MIE conducts the following reviews:
  • Random CalFresh cases to determine if the benefits were issued correctly and timely according to policies and regulations stated in The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 and the Code of Federal Regulations. Approximately 2,100 cases are reviewed monthly. Denied, discontinued, and withdrawn cases are also reviewed for accuracy of the determination and compliance with federal procedural requirements surrounding the negative action taken. MIE ensures implementation of required corrective action, as needed.
  • Random In-Home Supportive Services cases to ensure uniformity in the authorization of services and accurate assessments of needs and hours.  A minimum of 1,300 full desk reviews and 260 home visits are conducted annually to assess the effectiveness of the program and ensure the California Department of Social Services requirements are met.
  • Random Medi-Cal Application & Renewal cases to determine if eligibility was accurately and timely determined according to State and Federal policies and regulations.  Approximately 925 cases are reviewed monthly for both Medi-Cal Application Processing and Renewal reviews.
MIE is responsible for managing the following departmental activities:
  • Audit Liaison and Corrective Action Monitoring
  • CalFresh Program Quality Assurance/Quality Control Monitoring
