Many of Los Angeles County residents have voiced concerns regarding proposed changes to existing immigration policies and the potential impact to benefits administered by the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). Please be aware the Federal and State laws regarding public assistance programs have not changed. DPSS remains committed to providing Los Angeles County residents with effective and caring service, regardless of their immigration status.

Should you have questions about your right to receive DPSS benefits and the potential impact to your current or future immigration status, you should seek the advice of a reputable legal advisor

What Is DACA?

On June 15, 2012, the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that certain people who came to the United States as children and meet several guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal. They are also eligible for work authorization. Deferred action is a use of prosecutorial discretion to defer removal action of an individual for a certain period of time. Deferred action does not provide lawful status to an individual.
