I can't afford child care.  How can I receive assistance with child care payments?

Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) administers the CalWORKs Stage 1 Child Care Program which is a subsidized child care program for eligible families on CalWORKs (cash assistance) though contracts with 10 local child care R&R/APP agencies.  The R&R/APP agencies are also contracted by CDE that administers other child care subsidy and assistance programs which may be able to help you.  The R&R/APP agencies provide services in areas by zip code.

Please call the Statewide R&R Child Care Connection number at (800) 543-7793 to obtain the phone number to the R&R agency that services your home’s zip code.  You can also search for local R&R/APP agencies by entering your zip code in our agency locator. Click here to be redirected to the page.

How can I get a job working at one of the R&R/APP agencies?

For general child care information and potential jobs with the R&R/APP agencies, you may contact the Statewide R&R Child Care Connection number at (800) 543-7793 or visit the R&R Network’s website at www.rrnetwork.org.

How can I receive child care referrals for my FCCH or facility?

Please contact the Statewide R&R Child Care Connection number at (800) 543-7793 and ask them to place you on their database of licensed child care providers.  They provide referrals to families interested in receiving child care services from licensed child care providers.

How can I start a licensed family child care operation in my home?

CDSS’ CCLD has responsibility for licensing Family Child Care Homes (FCCH) and licensed facilities.  For information on starting an FCCH or facility, please contact one of the CCLD district offices listed below.

How do I file a complaint against an FCCH or licensed facility?

How do I get a license to operate a child care center?

CDSS’ CCLD is responsible for administering and licensing child care facilities.  There are two locations in Los Angeles County:

I'm a child care provider and want to be added to the DPSS Child Care website.  How can I do this?

DPSS can include large family child care homes (capacity of up to 14 children) on the website.  If you are a small FCCH, click on “How To Be Listed On This Website” located on the left-hand side of the page and follow “Steps 1 through 5.  Once DPSS receives and reviews your documents, we can add and display your FCCH to the DPSS Child Care Website.

What is the R&R/APP agency's role in child care?

The R&R/APP agencies determine child care eligibility and perform case management services, including child care provider eligibility determinations and child care provider payments. The R&R/APP agencies also maintain an inventory of licensed child care providers in your area from which they may provide you with referrals to licensed child care facilities.

Where can I obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid/Health and Safety classes?

CPR/First Aid/Health and Safety classes are offered at various locations throughout Los Angeles County by community colleges or at your local American Red Cross.

11.

Where can I take early child development classes to become a child care provider?

The State of California has various community colleges that offer early child development classes and training (internship).  To obtain information on early child development classes at your local community college, please log onto http://www.cccco.edu. Your local adult school may also offer early child development classes.
