CalFresh Awareness Month
What?
CalFresh Awareness Month is a comprehensive effort across Los Angeles County to increase access and participation in food assistance, reduce hunger and promote good nutrition.
The partnership includes the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Department of Public Social Services, various community partners, the United States Department of Agriculture- Food and Nutrition Services, and the California Department of Social Services. Together, these partners raise awareness through community events and activities regarding the availability of CalFresh.
Why?
Most people don't know CalFresh is the new name for Food Stamps in California.
CalFresh is critical to good nutrition for many families. This program increases household food budgets, allowing families to put healthy and nutritious food on the table. However, by some estimates, only half of those eligible for CalFresh in L.A. County are receiving benefits.
As a community, together we can increase public awareness of CalFresh. And now, CalFresh is just a click away. Visit us online at https://www.yourbenefits.laclrs.org to complete an application today!
