Important Information for New Applicants

Applicants that submit a complete application between March 27, 2020 and May 31, 2020 are not required to be interviewed, when they confirmed their identity and submit all required verifications with their applications.

Important Information for Existing CalFresh Customers:

  • Your current benefits will continue at the same level for March, April and May 2020. You do not have to submit a SAR-7 and recertification for these months are postponed for six months.
  • If your recertification was due in the months of March, April or May 2020, you will receive a new recertification month.  You will receive a letter to inform you of your new recertification month. 
  • If you are not getting the maximum CalFresh benefits for your household size, extra benefits will be added to your EBT card for the month on April 12, 2020 and May 10, 2020.  You do not need to contact us or apply for these benefits.
  • If you are in need of food, please use the Food Bank Resource Guide to find out where you can get help with food.  Hours of  operation may have changed, so call ahead!
  • You may also call 211 or visit for additional food resources.
  • If you are currently not receiving the maximum benefits allotment, you will be given the remaining difference for the months of March and April as part of the state’s emergency allotment.


California's Food Stamp Program has a new name "CalFresh." CalFresh is a Nutrition Assistance Program that can help people in low-income households purchase food by increasing their food-buying power.

If you are eligible for CalFresh assistance, you will receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) debit card. You can use your EBT card to purchase food items at grocery stores.

Important Message for EBT Cardholders

You can request or designate a responsible person that you trust to use your EBT card. The designated or alternate Cardholder can use your cash and CalFresh benefits on your behalf. To designate someone you must download, complete, signed and submit the EBT–Request for Authorized Representative/Designated Alternate Cardholder form.

There has been a substantial increase in fraudulent Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) transactions out of  state January 2020 and February 2020. The majority of stolen benefits are being withdrawn from automated teller machines (ATMs) in Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey.

In order to protect our clients, California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has blocked EBT ATM withdrawals in impacted areas of Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey as of March 10, 2020. Cardholders attempting to withdraw cash at an ATM in those states will receive a general message stating their transaction is declined.  Specific messaging varies between ATM owners. Transactions at Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) authorized retailers are still fully functional.

Cardholders travel to Florida, Georgia, or New Jersey, what do you need to do?

If you travel to Florida, Georgia, or New Jersey and need to withdraw cash  using your EBT card at an ATM, you must call the EBT Customer Service Help Line at (877) 328-9677 and request an exception for ATM access in that state. 

ALERT!!! Social Media, Telephone and Cell Phone Text Scam!

EBT cardholders continue to receive text messages and/or phone calls from number(s) listed in column 2 below instructing them to call the numbers listed in column 3 below where an automated recording asks them to provide personal information including their EBT 16-digit card number and PIN. When the information is given, the perpetrators then create a card and withdraw funds from the recipient’s accounts. This is a scam. Cardholders should not provide any information. Cardholders who have already provided card numbers and PINs to a third party should call the phone on back of their EBT card and change their PINs or to report their EBT cards as lost or stolen.

Suspicious text message stating that it was her last chance in regards to CalFresh.  Kaiser states this phone number is not associated with Kaiser.  # still in service, answered and a strange hold to transfer the call with, "this call may be recorded for quality assurance,"  but no name of company.  Finally connected to live person who wants my phone number to verify the phone number I'm responding to.  Live person states they are connected to Kaiser and CalFresh and states they are legitimate, no supervisor available to talk.
