Community Service Block Grant (CSBG)
Community Services Block Grants are appropriations from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help communities address poverty issues. States are allocated money and are directed to fund anti-poverty nonprofit and/or public agencies statewide to address the local issues of poverty within their communities. The funding for the program is provided to Community Action Agencies (CAA's) who in turn oversee the program and monitor the services provided to the low-income population.
The Los Angeles County CSBG program is administered by the Department of Public Social Services, which serves as the Los Angeles County CAA.
The purpose of the CSBG Program is to assist low-income families and individuals to achieve economic self-sufficiency through a variety of programs and core services which include, but not limited to, employment & employment support services, employment partnership, child and family development, emergency services, domestic violence, legal services, and seniors and disabled adult services.
