The plastic bag ban in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County only began July 1, 2011. Many of the grocery stores, drug stores and convenience stores no longer provide plastic carry-out bags to customers when shopping, but provide recyclable paper bags for $0.10 per bag. Households that receive CalFresh benefits must not be charged the bag usage fee.

GIS Day 2010, is a County sponsored, countywide event, that brings together several County Departments, local cities, colleges, universities, and private industry, to demonstrate the latest in geographic information systems technologies. These electronic mapping and geospatial technologies are being used to solve issues of safety and efficiency throughout the County.

The County has concluded contract negotiations with the selected proposer, prepared the final contract documents, and received a Letter of Intent from the selected proposer stating that it will execute the contract following the completion of County's protest process with non-selected proposers and the approval of the contract by the Board of Supervisors.

The downturn in the economy is resulting in a rise in the General Relief (GR) caseload. In response to a motion by Don Knabe, the Board of Supervisors instructed the CEO, in collaboration with DPSS, to report back on a potential GR program redesign that would better assist individuals towards greater self-sufficiency.
