If you are aged, blind, or disabled, the IHSS Program can help you pay for in-home services
such as cleaning, cooking, laundry, shopping and personal care. These services enable eligible
persons to remain at home and prevent out-of-home placement. IHSS recipients will automatically
receive Medi-Cal only if they are no SSI/SSP or other Medi-Cal linked cash-based program (e.g. CalWORKs).
Of you do not currently receive SSI/SSP, you must first be determined eligible to Medi-Cal under Medi-Cal
rules and regulations. Your application will automatically go to a Medi-Cal Eligibility Worker for
this determination. Once you are determined eligible to Medi-Cal, a Social Worker will visit your home to
determine your eligibility and need for IHSS. If your child is blind or disabled, (s)he may also
qualify for SSI.
