Question: Is the participant eligible for vehicle repairs if she did not register her car, but she has a “pink slip” showing the car was transferred to her 7 months ago? |
| |
|
Answer: Yes.
The participant may be eligible for requested repairs, if proof of ownership in the form of a “pink slip” or bill of sale is provided. Although, policy requires that a vehicle "must have been continuously registered to a member of the household throughout the preceding six months prior to the issuance of benefits,” current registration is not necessary if proof of ownership is provided. |

Question: Can assistance for car repairs be approved if the participant makes a request after an accident? |
| |
|
Answer:
Yes. The vehicle repair request may be approved if the participant’s insurance or another party’s insurance does not cover the repair. Only non-cosmetic vehicle repairs resulting from car accidents that preclude the vehicle from operating are allowable. The participant must provide a PA 853 affidavit stating that the non-cosmetic Vehicle Repairs resulted from a car accident and that the other party was uninsured, or the reason why the insurance company will not pay for the repairs, and at least one of the following documents:
1. A police report; or
2. A Department of Motor Vehicles printout/letter/statement of fault; or
3. A letter from the participant’s and the other party’s insurance company
verifying non-payment for the repairs. |
