Question: Can the County approve a Self-Initiated Program (SIP) for a Master’s Degree in Public Relations/Marketing for an individual who timed-out less than 12 months?

Answer: No.  Per State regulation, educational activities (including both SIP and VOC) may only be approved for an Undergraduate (4-year) Degree or a regular Teaching Credential.  Further, if the activity cannot be approved there is no supportive services eligibility.

Question: Can a timed-off participant apply for work-study?

Answer: Yes. Due to some limitations on work-study for them, timed-off participants should be referred to their school’s financial aid office, not the CalWORKs office.
