Starting July 1, 2011, CalWORKs families across Los Angeles County will
experience one or more significant grant reductions as part of a State Budget
Agreement enacted in March 2011. We expect many of these families will confront
additional hardship as they struggle to adapt to dramatically less household income.
-
Effective July 1, 2011, all 180,668 CalWORKs families in Los Angeles County
will be impacted by the CalWORKs 8% Grant Reduction. For example, this
means that the maximum monthly CalWORKs grant for a family of three in
Los Angeles County will be reduced from $694 to $638.
-
Effective July 1, 2011, the Earned Income Disregard will be changed from
$225 to $112 for earned income, plus 50 percent of any remaining earned
income. This is essentially an additional cut to most employed CalWORKs
families of $57 per month.
-
Effective August 1, 2011, CalWORKs families where the adult has been on aid
for more than 48 months will lose the adult portion of the grant. Children of
these impacted families will continue to receive aid provided that they meet the
other existing eligibility requirements.
-
New Incremental Grant Reductions for most child-only cases that would have gone
into effect September 1, 2011 has been repealed in State law and will therefore no longer go into effect.
